The Rocky Mountains of northern Colorado are home to diverse forest ecosystems, important watersheds, and habitats for native wildlife. The region also supports local communities and nature-based tourism through outdoor recreation, ranching, and conservation activities.

The East Troublesome Fire of October 2020 became one of the most destructive wildfires in Colorado’s history, burning across thousands of acres of forest and natural landscapes. In the aftermath of the fire, large areas of land faced increased risks of erosion, biodiversity loss, and long-term ecological degradation.

Immediate mitigation efforts helped stabilise parts of the affected area, including aerial grass seeding to reduce erosion and protect nearby watersheds. However, significant sections of the landscape required long-term restoration to support the recovery of healthy forest ecosystems.

To accelerate this process, Land Life developed a science-based reforestation strategy focused on restoring forest structure and ecosystem function over the coming decades. Without intervention, natural regeneration in these high-altitude ecosystems could take centuries.

With support from Eveon Containers, 10,000 native, climate-resilient trees have been planted across 14 hectares of fire-affected land in the Rocky Mountains. The restoration includes species selected for their resilience and ecological value, including Ponderosa Pine, Douglas-fir, Limber Pine, and Lodgepole Pine.

Beyond tree planting, the project contributes to restoring biodiversity, stabilising soils, reducing erosion, and supporting long-term landscape resilience in one of Colorado’s ecologically important mountain regions. The initiative also supports regional nurseries, local employment, and ongoing stewardship activities that help strengthen community involvement in ecosystem recovery.
